Innovation is the key to growth and to managing the humanitarian and environmental challenges we face as a nation. Sri Lanka is richly blessed with biological diversity but equally with the historical and cultural heritage, knowledge and intellectual ability, creativity and commitment to drive the innovation that will support a more sustainable alignment of our development as a nation. The Merrill J.Fernando Innovation Award has the objective of supporting innovators who may lack the means of developing their concepts or prototypes, and thereby helping them to replicate in their sectors, the success of Dilmah, A Sri Lankan business driven by an ordinary Sri Lankan with an innovative idea. The Award is intended to help innovators protect and benefit from their eco innovation initiatives whilst supporting the environmental, humanitarian and general development priorities of Sri Lanka.
