At ‘The IUCN Red List: A Road to Conservation’, a public lecture organized by Dilmah Conservation, Dr. Simon Stuart provided insight on how the IUCN Red List is used in developing digital repositories like the Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool (IBAT) which offers a reliable database that can be accessed easily by stakeholders like private sector companies for making responsible decisions. Its use as a successful conservation tool can be measured by assessing its role in the recovery of species like the Chinese Panda and the Chinese Crested Ibis. Considering Sri Lanka’s rich and endemic amphibian diversity, Dr Simon Stuart’s visit to Sri Lanka looks at the possibility of collaborating with Dilmah Conservation on including this group of highly-sensitive creatures into the Global IUCN Red List.
