The onset of the monsoons in the Indian subcontinent is accompanied by the incessant croaking of frogs. Sri Lanka is home to nearly a hundred of these ecologically sensitive indicator species, of which 78 species belong to a genus of shrub frogs Pseudophilautus. While we are thrilled to have identified 12 frogs from this genus, including the Dilmah Shrub Frog, we still have a commitment towards protecting and re-assessing Sri Lanka’s amphibian fauna for the IUCN Red List to strengthen the protection and conservation of this vulnerable species, most of which are endemic to our island.
