Dilmah Conservation will mark a new chapter in its operation in the province with the inauguration of the MJF Centre for Dignified Empowerment & Sustainable Development East on 1st September 2018 by Hon. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe, Dilmah Founder and Chairman Merrill J. Fernando in Kalkudah.

MJF Centre for Dignified Empowerment & Sustainable Development East

As the regional focus of Dilmah Conservation activities, it aims to secure livelihood options and build climate resilience amongst the communities through the introduction of innovative and sustainable concepts in agriculture, animal husbandry and fishing practices and livelihood support as well as ecosystem restoration.

  • Objectives

    • Provide better market access and improve livelihood opportunities through the introduction of sustainable and innovative practices in the region.
    • Introduction of CO4 grass to increase the milk production from cows and produce secondary milk products, providing more sustainable and improved livelihood opportunities to farmers engaged in animal husbandry and dairy farming.
    • Support women from the fishing community in producing secondary fish products.
    • Run pilot projects to test the viability and success of organic farming in already agricultural lands, and introduce sustainable modes of farming in the eastern region of Sri Lanka.
