Lichens: The Coolest Thing You Never Heard Of!’ is another initiative by Dilmah Conservation to create a new wave scientific awareness regarding the less spoken subject of lichens. The environmental lecture held at BMICH hosted the National Geographic team comprising of Dr Pat Wolseley, Dr Gothamie Weerakoon, and Mathew Cicanese brought the general public closer to understanding lesser known facts about the environment through lichens.

The Dilmah Conservation Environmental Lecture, 'Lichens: The Coolest Thing You Never Heard Of!' was held at BMICH on 27th May 2017.

The speakers and distinguished members of the scientific community in Sri Lankan listen intently as Dr Pat Wolseley shares her brilliant insight on lichen research.

Notable figures including Mrs. Shiranee Yasaratne, Advisor to Biodiversity Sri Lanka, Ms. Kumudini Hettiarachchi, Deputy Editor News Features at The Sunday Times, and renowned artist and architect, Ismeth Raheem graced the event.

"Lichens growing in the urban environment exhibit immense tolerance to pollution, as against species growing in the rainforests," - Dr Gothamie Weerakoon.
