Tree with a grey trunk carrying woody branches with corky ridges. The leaves are arranged alternately on slender twigs, mature leaves are dull and dark green in colour, while the young ones are much brighter above and greyish beneath with many traces of veins. The leaves are oblong shaped with a tapered base and a bluntly pointed apex, about 5-14 cm long and 1.5 5.5 cm broad. White coloured male and female flowers are borne separately. Female flowers are mostly seen on the terminal ends, while male flowers are often seen on leafless nodes. Flowers are about 2-3 cm, 5 segmented with a pale greenish calyx much more prominent than the petals in female flowers. The fruit is globose, about 1.5 cm, vertically grooved into three parts, and slightly crowned.
