The trunk is straight, reddish-grey, and rough. The twigs are somewhat quadrangular. The young flush is mauve in colour. The mature leaves are upturned, dull green above, paler beneath, about 2-8 cm long and 1.8-5.4 cm broad, broadly elliptic in shape with an almost rounded base and apex. The margin is often rolled outwards, and the leaves wrinkle when drying. Its pale pink or cream, funnel-shaped flowers are seen in attractive sessile clusters. The cone-shaped fruit is about 1 cm in size, with a rim at the base, turning red when ripe.
