Tree with a rounded canopy and greyish-yellow bark. Branchlets are slender and armed with single axillary spines. The fruiting branchlets are often spineless. Bruised leaves have a lemon-like fragrance. Leaves are segmented into three (sometimes, they might only have 1 or 2 leaflets), laterals are smaller than the middle one, ovate in shape, with slightly notched apex. The petiole is 2-3 cm long and narrowly winged. Inflorescences are seen at the nodes of leaves, and consist of few white, lemon-scented flowers about 1.0 cm. The fruit is globose, about 2-3 cm diameter, and resembles a small orange.
