The bark is smooth and grey. Young parts are brownish due to the presence of dense, minute hairs. Leaves, arranged in opposites on the twigs are about 9-30 cm long and 7-17 cm broad, thick, hanging, elliptic in shape with a tapering base and a shortly pointed apex. The young leaves are velvety red to red-brown, including the petiole. The leaves turn greyish-brown with maturity. The midrib and lateral veins are rusty coloured and prominent. The inflorescences are made up of yellowish-brown flowers.

An endemic tree. Leaves have a long life span of about 5-7 months.
