Bark light to blackish-brown, and often cracked into strips. Tender leaves are velvety, whitish and pendulous. Mature leaves are bright green with a prominent mid vein and reticulate lateral veins. The laminar is often pale greenish, spotted, 4-14 cm long and 2-7 cm wide, elliptic in shape, tapered at the base and shortly pointed at the tip. Flower buds are somewhat linear and develop into white flowers. Small, fragrant flowers are about 1 cm, borne in groups of 1-3 at the leaf nodes. The ripe fruit is orange-red or brownish, oval, and about 1.5-3 cm long, with a star-shaped calyx persistent at base.
