Reddish-brown bark of tree is smooth when young but becomes flaky in older trees. Branchlets are smooth, somewhat slender, spreading and slightly hairy towards the apex. Leaves smooth and glossy above, paler beneath, spirally arranged on twigs, about 4-17 cm long and 2-7 cm broad, oblong in shape with a bluntly pointed base and apex, contains a prominent midrib and few 5-6 (channeled above. Flowers in clusters on very short stalks, in axils of fallen leaves. Fruit about 8-12 mm long, oblong or globose on a cup-like structure about 5 mmlong, turns dark purple when mature.
