The smooth, orange-grey bark exudes a reddish-orange gum when wounded. Young parts including the terminal bud are covered in yellowish brown hairs. Leaves are oblong or elliptic in shape with a rounded base and short pointed apex, about 9-30 cm long and 4-11 cm broad, and smooth on both sides. Many pairs of veins tinted in a reddish colour are prominent beneath. Male and female inflorescences are about 2 cm long, and borne on leafless nodes. More orange-yellow sessile flowers are seen in male inflorescence, in comparison to the female. The ovoid fruit is fleshy and leathery, about 3-4 cm and densely covered with orange hairs. The seed is surrounded by a fleshy, reddish-orange coat.
