Tree with straggling, wrinkled branches and branchlets. Leaves are thin and velvety due to the presence of fine hairs, alternately arranged on velvety twigs, 4-20 cm long and 2.5-15 cm broad in size, dull green in colour above and pale beneath, broadly ovate in shape with a rounded base and a rounded, but suddenly pointed apex, and finely teethed margins. 3-5 veins radiate from the base. Flowers are seen in a small group at the leaf nodes, about 2-3 cm, attractive red-orange, petals somewhat re-curved and somewhat clawed. The fruit is a tightly, spirally twisted woody pod about 7 cm with a long stalk. Seeds are about 2-3 mm and angular in shape.
Scrubland and disturbed sandy areas up to 200 m.
