Tree with a pale brownish thick bark. Branchlets, pale brown and velvety, ends with a terminal bud enclosed by hairy scales. Leaves about 5-25 cm long and 2-8 cm broad, somewhat larger in saplings, spirally arranged, rather crowded at ends of branchlets, elliptic or oblong in shape with shortly pointed base and almost rounded apex, upper surface is glossy and pale brown velvety beneath, midrib prominent with 8-10 pairs of lateral veins, almost parallel and prominent on both sides of the leaf. Short petioles are also dark brown and velvety. Yellowish flowers arranged in heads are borne axillary or in axils of fallen leaves. Fruits are about 10-12 mm in diameter, globose, on flat, thickened cup-like structure.
