The greenish-brown stem, branches and leaves contain sticky white poisonous latex. The leaves, arranged in pairs, in opposite directions on the stem, are thick and shiny, dark green when mature, yellowish when old, about 8-21 cm long and 3-9 cm wide, elliptical in shape with a tapering base and rounded apex, veins faintly grooved above and hardly seen beneath. Flowers with white petals and a narrow, yellowish floral tube form hanging clusters with a few flowers in a group. Fruits are pendulous, usually paired, about 5-7 cm long and 3-5 cm broad, wedge-shaped, orange when ripe and splits into two to release the seeds embedded in its crimson pulp.
