The pale brownish trunk and young red flush make the tree attractive. Leaves are alternately arranged, about 18 cm long and 12 cm broad, with the lower half almost rounded or broadly ovate, and a triangular upper half with a teethed margin, a rounded base and a slightly tapered apex. 3-7 veins arise from the base. Inflorescences are borne on the axils of leaves, compactly arranged with small, yellow flowers, about 5-8 mm. Fruit is globular, about 1.0 cm, purple when ripe, and edible.
