A deciduous tree with longitudinally cracked, greyish-brown bark. Leaves are compound, up to 24 cm long, with 10-20 alternately arranged leaflets including a terminal pair, each leaflet is oval in shape with a tapered base and blunt tip, about 1.5-3 cm long and 0.6-1.5 cm broad, and asymmetrical at the base. The white flowers are borne in clusters that are often produced when the tree is leafless. The fruit is oval, cup-shaped, about 3 cm long and 1 cm broad, and split into three segments from tip to release. The seeds are single-winged.
