The stem is strongly fibrous, soft, and slender covered with brownish grey bark. The bright green leaves are alternately arranged on the twigs, elliptical in shape with a tapering base and pointed apex, about 3-9 cm long and 1.2-5 cm broad, and have a prominent midrib with numerous pairs of lateral veins. Young leaves droop slightly. A group of a few white flowers are borne at the ends of the twigs. The fruit is a reddish brown capsule about 2 cm.
Rain forest understory.
An endemic tree. High demand for plant extracts from fungi infected bark to be used in the perfume industry. Bark easily stripped for cordage.
