A well-branched tree with garish bark. The twigs appear brownish due to the presence of dense hairs. The terminal bud is silky. Young leaves are rough, crowded at the ends, hanging, and brownish-pink in colour. Mature leaves are arranged alternately, 4-10 cm long and 1.5-5 cm broad, ovate in shape with a tapering base and a shortly pointed apex, smooth and pale green above, and whitish-green beneath. Three veins emanate from base, together with the prominent lateral veins. Pale green-yellow flowers are found in compact clusters at the ends of branchlets, and densely covered in fine hairs. Male and female flowers are borne separately. Fruits are 8-12 mm in diameter, globose with a base ringed with a thin cup-like structure.
