Stem with a corky, greyish, warty bark supports a large, dense, round headed, dark green canopy. The leaves are brownish-red when young,
arranged in opposites on twigs, broadly oval in shape with a rounded base with unequal sides and a tapering apex, five-veined, shiny, about 3-12 cm long and 1.5-7 cm wide. Many greenish-white flowers are borne in terminal clusters. The fruits are yellowish-orange shiny berries, about 3-4 cm diameter, with a few seeds and pink pulp.
