The thorny twigs contain small compound leaves containing 8-16 pairs of pinnae arranged in pairs along a rachis of 1-1.5 cm in length. Each pinnae about 1 cm long, consists of 12-20 pairs of tiny, closely packed leaflets, each about 1.5-3.5 cm long and 1 mm broad. Flowers are borne in attractive, tassel-like clusters, and are bi-coloured, pink to violet-pink at the base and yellow towards the apex. The fruit is a wrinkled, linear pod, about 4 cm long and 5-10 mm broad, swollen, over 6-10 ellipsoid seeds, that turns green to brown with maturity.
