A deciduous tree with spreading branches and a smooth, pale brown trunk. Leaves are compound, 10-60 cm long with 3-8 pairs of leaflets arranged in opposites, including the terminal pair. Leaflets are oval-shaped, smooth and shiny, 6-10 cm long and 3.5-5 cm broad, pointed at both base and tip. Flowers are attractive, bright yellow, borne on pendulous clusters up to 50cm long. Fruits are pendulous, rod-like, up to 75 cm long, blackish-brown, and contain many seeds.
Forest and scrublands. Also grown in the wet zone.
Native. Ornamental tree, also possess medicinal properties. A very common roadside tree.
