A spreading tree with compound leaves on slender branches. The leaves end in a terminal leaflet together with 3-9 pairs of leaflets attached in a ‘v’shaped position. The leaflets are 3-11 cm long and 2-5 cm broad, oblong-elliptic in shape with a rounded base and pointed apex. The pair of leaflets found closer to the base of the leaf is smaller than the others. Its showy flowers are seen in terminal clusters, pink and yellow with strikes of purple. Fruit is an elongated thin twisted pod 30-50 cm long, contains many small winged seeds.
