Situated at the Dilmah Conservation Sustainable Agriculture and Research Center (DCSARC) in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, the One Earth Urban Arboretum houses 500 different types of flora, as well as, a model ‘Weva’ or irrigation tank (reservoir), a paddy field, and a traditional agriculture and household resource center. Through this tangible depiction of natural forests and of Sri Lankan agriculture in the immediate past, Dilmah Conservation aims to educate and inform urban populations, as well as the younger generation, on the value of trees to our society, environment and our future existence.
Message From Founder
I strongly believe that in order for us to protect nature we must first share a love of it. This love must be fostered and nurtured through the understanding of its significance to the world around us and that I believe is where parents come in. Parents have an integral role to play in how children perceive the environment and I think it is better that whilst parents encourage their children in achieving their goals, it is also vital that alongside they be taught about the importance of nature thereby harboring a respect and love for it. Children must be involved more in nature and not disconnected from it.
The One Earth Urban Arboretum is a humble effort from Dilmah Conservation in the hopes of igniting this love and respect towards nature in the younger generation as well as the older.
