The vee bissa is made a outside the farmers home. The elevation ensures that the paddy inside is unaffected by soil or water. Vines and wood used to set it up and the margosa leaves that are placed on top of the paddy, protects it from insects.
The vee bissa assured the food security of farmers. It was also a measure of a farmers' wealth and influence - a farmer who had many vee bissas within his compound was regarded as wealthy.
